![]() BRUCE GORDON, CHAIRMAN | Bruce has been Chairman of the Treasurer’s Forum for three years and is an enthusiastic supporter of the work that Treasurers carry out and the contribution they make to the huge range of charities they are involved in. Bruce is Treasurer of Guide Dogs for the Blind and his portfolio here includes fundraising as well as finance. Bruce is a senior partner in Deloittes where he is involved in the audit of large companies. |
![]() PAUL MITCHELL | Paul is a Director of UBS Wealth Management. He has over 20 years experience of managing charitable funds having spent 15 years at Schroders before joining UBS in 2003. Trustee development is very close to Paul's heart and he was instrumental in the design of the UBS trustee training program which is regarded as one of the best in the industry. He has recently contributed to the updated version of "The good investment guide for the voluntary sector" published by NCVO and writes articles on investment matters for the charity press. He is a visiting lecturer on investments at the Cass Business School centre for charity effectiveness and regularly lectures at charity conferences. Paul has previously held trustee positions with medical, educational and animal welfare charities and currently volunteers for a medical charity near his home in Sussex. |
![]() PROFESSOR PAUL PALMER | Paul is Professor of Voluntary Sector Management at the CASS Business School and has extensive knowledge of charity financial management and governance issues. Paul was a member of the Charity Commission SORP Committee from 2000 - 2005 and is currently working on SORP updating for religious orders. Paul also acts as an independent consultant on Charities to UBS Wealth Management and as independent expert on charity dispute issues for courts and arbitration. Recently Paul’s area of work has extended into the area of Corporate Social Responsibility and he has co-authored a book on Socially Responsible Investment and completed a research project on Responsible Lending. Paul was elected Honorary Treasurer of the CSR SIG of BAM in 2006. |
![]() STEPHEN BROOKER | Stephen works as a self-employed consultant to businesses including charities of all sizes: local, national and international specialising in corporate governance and financial and business strategy. He is a non-executive director of the East & North Herts NHS Trust, which has two acute hospitals, a regional cancer centre and a community hospital, Chair of the Audit Committee of the Law Society, leads the charity practice at Russam GMS Interim Executive Resourcing, is a Trustee and Honorary Treasurer of Remap (a national charity providing technical equipment for disabled people) and of the British Council for Prevention of Blindness and a member of the Court of City University. Stephen is a Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Glovers, serving on the Court since 1999 and is Chair of the Glove Collection Trust which has an historic collection of gloves dating back to the sixteenth century and on display at the Fashion Museum, Bath. |
![]() LESLIE DAVID JONES OBE, EXECUTIVE SECRETARY | Les qualified as an accountant many years ago and after starting his career in local government he joined Thames Water in 1974. Here he held several senior financial posts and also managed I.T., Transport, Property and Estates, Water Quality and Laboratories and Purchasing. In 1989 he became the Regional General Manager of the National Rivers Authority, Thames Division, managing the Thames and its catchments, pollution control, navigation, flood defence (the Thames Barrier) etc. In 1996 he became Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Finance at WWF-UK (World Wide Fund for Nature). He was also Chief Executive for a time. Since retiring from WWF in 2003 he has pursued a portfolio career, working for Haysmacintyre (several consultancy assignments), the Charities Consortium and the Honorary Treasurer’s Forum. He also worked for a time for Jewson Associates (investment advisers) and he currently is an affiliate to Ethical Consulting where he assists in the development of Socially Responsible Investment policies. He is a keen advocate for the SRI approach. He has also carried out several interim management roles recently including Acting Director of Finance for Natural England. |
