Diabetes UK – Treasurer (Added 1 September 2010)
Diabetes UK is the largest national charity for the three million people with diabetes in the UK and their families, friends and carers. Diabetes is a serious, chronic condition and if it is not managed properly, it can cause heart disease, strokes, kidney failure, blindness and amputation.
We are looking for an individual with significant and demonstrable expertise in the field of financial management to be our next Treasurer with the skills and experience to contribute to the strategic running of a national health charity in this key role.
Diabetes UK has grown significantly over the past few years and we now have an annual income of around £30 million a year. Like most charities the past year or so has proved challenging financially and we are looking to consolidate, diversify and increase our income in the future to ensure we increase our impact and delivery for people living with diabetes.
The Treasurer is a member of our Board which has twelve members. Our Trustees do not need to have diabetes but many of our current trustees have personal experience of diabetes.
Because this role is so crucial to the running of the charity this prestigious position is being selected this year to enable an induction period before formally commencing for an initial period of three years in mid 2011 when our outgoing Treasurer retires after serving six years in this role.
For further information, or to arrange an informal chat about the role, please contact Fiona Twycross on fiona.twycross@diabetes.org.uk or phone 020 7424 1000.
Omega Research Foundation - Treasurer/Trustee required (Added 26 July 2010)
The Omega Research Foundation is a national charity based in Manchester that monitors the international trade in military, security and police equipment. We are looking for a talented individual to join our board of trustees as Treasurer.
You should be willing to attend 4 board meetings each year and occasionally join in with other organisational activities, such as strategy days or recruitment. You may also be asked by staff for advice or input into discussions between formal meetings.
You should have an understanding of the third sector, and a commitment to human rights, possibly with more detailed knowledge of the human rights sector or the arms and security trade.
Trustees have specific obligations to ensure that the charity operates according to its charitable statutes and to provide financial oversight, and the Treasurer has particular responsibilities in this area. We are therefore looking for an experienced accountant for this role.
Trustees are encouraged to undertake training to support aspects of trusteeship. Where appropriate, the Omega Research Foundation will fund such training.
More information about the Omega Research Foundation and our work is attached.
Please write a covering letter detailing your suitability for this post and enclosing your CV and return to Fiona Gorton, Resources and Finance Officer on the email below. This should reach us as soon as possible, but by 20th September 2010 at the latest.

Trustee, Convener of the Investments Monitoring Group (added 12 March 2010)
All Saints Educational Trust
The opportunity
The All Saints Educational Trust is a charity, founded by the sale in 1979 of the campus of a Church of England teaching training college. Income from the investment of the proceeds is disbursed in grants to those who wish to train professionally to become, principally, school teachers. The capital value of the Trust currently stands at approximately £9 million.
The Trust prefers that applicants for grants intend to teach either Religious Education or Home Economics. Moreover, the Trust prefers that applicants observe the ethical and spiritual dimension represented by the Church of England; and makes awards to those, Anglican, Christian or otherwise, who can add value to the Church's distinctive contribution to education at primary and secondary levels. In this context, the Trust will also fund higher level training for the purposes of cpd and the development of school leadership skills.
The Trust also supports citizens from Commonwealth countries studying full time in the UK at Master's level. Corporate awards are made to support longer-term project/research activity.
The Trust is seeking to co-opt a new Trustee to replace a long-standing colleague, a former stockbroker, who retires from the Trust Board at the end of the current calendar year. The appointee should have wide, relevant experience of financial/investment business and be in sympathy with the ethical and denominational basis of the Trust. However, while desirable, it is not essential for the appointee to be either an Anglican or a Christian.
The appointee would join the expert Investments Monitoring Group (IMG - 3), a subset of the Finance and General Purposes Committee (6). The F&GPC meets formally twice a year, usually at the London HQ of the Trust's Investment Manager (UBS). The full Board (16)also meets twice a year; but the IMG consults informally, largely by phone/email, on an ad hoc basis, in liaising with one another, the Trust Clerk (CEO) and the Investment Manager.
