ABOUT US

The Honorary Treasurer’s Forum was set up to provide a source of information, research and knowledge for the Treasurers of charities large and small.  Honorary Treasurers are the unsung heroes of the voluntary sector and they carry out a critical role in the financial and wider management of their charities.  The Forum seeks to support them in the very important work they do.  It also offers them an opportunity to meet and network with each other.

The Forum holds three meetings a year in central London and these always involve keynote speakers.  Previous speakers have included Jonathon Porrit talking about socially responsible investment, Gavyn Davies talking about economic prospects and Andrew Hind, the Chief Executive of the Charity Commission talking about regulation and public benefit.  The meetings always also include an opportunity for Treasurers to meet informally.

The Forum also carries out research and produces publications specifically aimed at assisting Treasurers in their work.  Our first publication was produced in partnership with NCVO and was an exhaustive work on the Role of the Honorary Treasurer.  The Forum was also involved in the production of the “Relationship between the Hon. Treasurer and Director of Finance” which forms part of the Charity Finance Directors Group 20th Anniversary Book.  The Forum is currently undertaking its own first major research project “21st Century Philanthropy”.  This will look at what constraints there are which prevent significantly rich individuals from donating to charities.

The Forum is a registered charity (No: 1118802) and has a Board of Trustees whose names and backgrounds are included in the web site.  Membership of the Forum is currently free but the Trustees are currently examining options as to how the Forum might be funded in the future.

We are very grateful for the very kind sponsorship which allows the Forum to meet its objectives.  UBS Wealth Management has been a sponsor and keen supporter of the Forum since its inception.  The CASS Business School, through its Centre for Charity Effectiveness, has also supported the Forum since its inauguration.  Recently Sayer Vincent, Unity Bank and Bates Wells & Braithwaite have agreed to support us.

The Trustees of the Forum are now seeking to expand its role and influence so that Honorary Treasurers of charities will always have a robust base on which to support their work.
